"Johtolanka" interest club

Pupils get role models, which they usually do not have in their own environment, when attending clubs and courses organized by the female engineering students. The positive experience sticks in their mind and it might affect the choices made in the future. It is essential that educative matters are adapted to those experiences what a pupil has and especially girls’ needs are noticed. One key factor is teachers’ awareness of girls’ position in teaching. TiNA organized “Johtolanka” physics interest clubs at Aarnivalkea, Perkkaanpuisto, Lintuvaara and Mäntymäki schools. Technology Industries of Finland (Teknologiateollisuus ry) has invented a toolbox called “Johtolankapaketti” for lower level of comprehensive schools. It contains ten excersises and a bunch of tools, from steel hair to cables and from led to battery holder. This toolbox and other exercises, which the engineering students have prepared, are used as material on the courses and clubs organized by TiNA.
